All musicians residing within the UAE are welcome to join the orchestra.

The main criteria for playing in and performing with the UAEPO is regular rehearsal attendance, commitment and playing standard.

By joining the UAEPO you can become actively involved in creating the first philharmonic orchestra in the UAE.

 

The UAEPO currently has vacancies for the following instrument categories (these are not yet full-time salaried positions):

 

- all string instruments

- Oboe (1)

- Cor Anglais (1)

- Clarinet (1)

- Bassoon (2)

- Contra-bassoon (1)

- French Horn (2)

 

Please note that the UAEPO does currently not yet offer full-time salaried positions. If you are interested in a position within the UAEPO at a later stage please email your details to the respective committee member or directly to the UAEPO's Artistic Director.

Auditioning Requirements for the UAEPO

Below you can find the auditioning requirements for the UAEPO and download sheet music. If you are interested in a potential position with the UAEPO here is your chance to prepare yourself !

Flute:
1. Required excerpts: Debussy Afternoon of a Faun: [2] to [3] (This is mm. 21 - 30), Dvorak Symphony No.8, 4th movement, [D] to [E] with repeats (This is mm. 75-92), Prokofiev Classical Symphony, 2nd movement: [39] to [41], 4th movement: 1 bar before [52] to 5 after [55], Stravinsky Firebird Suite (1919), Variation de l'oiseau de feu (Variation of the Firebird): [9] to 5 after [18]
2. Solo: Standard repertoire concerto, sonata, or etude demonstrating technical and lyrical abilities, no more than 10 minutes in length, without accompaniment.


Piccolo:
(in addition to Flute application only, submit on the same videotape/DVD)
1. Required excerpts:, Bartok Concerto for Orchestra 3rd movement: solos at [28] and [57], [123] to end, 5th movement: [418] to [429]


Oboe:
Required excerpts: Ravel Le Tombeau de Couperin, 1st movement: beginning to [2], 6 after [8] to [9]; 3rd movement: beginning to [4] (no repeats), 4th movement: [5] to 2 after [8], Rossini La Scala di Seta: measure 5 to [1], [2] to [3], Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4, 2nd movement: mm. 1 - 21, 3rd movement: meno mosso to 16 before [E]
2. Solo: Standard repertoire concerto, sonata, or etude demonstrating technical and lyrical abilities, no more than 10 minutes in length, without accompaniment.


English Horn (in addition to Oboe application only, submit on the same videotape/DVD)
1. Required excerpts: Berlioz Roman Carnival Overture , 14 before [1] to 3 after [1] mm. 36 - 53, Debussy Nocturnes, 1st movement: [4] to [6], 2nd movement: beginning to [1], [2] to 7 before [4], Dvorak Symphony No. 9, "From the New World", 2nd movement: [A] to [B] (This is mm. 7 - 18)


Clarinet:
1. Required excerpts: Beethoven Symphony No. 6, 1st mvt: mm. 474-492, 2nd movement: mm. 69 - 78, Mendelssohn Midsummer Night's Dream, Scherzo, Beginning to [B] (This is mm. 1 - 48), Stravinsky Firebird Suite 1919, Variation, Beginning to end of Variation, Rachmaninov Symphony No. 2, 3rd mvt: Beginning to [47]
2. Solo: Standard repertoire concerto, sonata, or etude demonstrating technical and lyrical abilities, no more than 10 minutes in length, without accompaniment.


Bass Clarinet (in addition to Clarinet application only, submit on the same videotape/DVD)
1. Required excerpts: Grofe Grand Canyon Suite: "On the Trail" 8 before [E] to [E] (In some editions, this is 8 before [5] to [5]. It is the cadenza.), Strauss Till Eulenspiegel?7 after [11] to 5 after [13]; [20] to 7 after [20]; 6 before [27] to 8 after [27]


Bassoon:
1. Required excerpts: Mozart Overture to "The Marriage of Figaro," [I] to [K] (This is mm. 139 - 171), Rimsky-Korsakov "Scheherazade" 2nd movement: [L] to [M] (cadenza), Stravinsky Rite of Spring, beginning to 3 after [3]; [12] to 4 after [12], Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4, 2nd movement: last 31 bars, Maurice Ravel: "Bolero" - bar 41 to bar 58 (solo)
2. Solo: Standard repertoire concerto, sonata, or etude demonstrating technical and lyrical abilities, no more than 10 minutes in length, without accompaniment.


Contrabassoon (in addition to Bassoon application only, submit on the same videotape/DVD)1. Required excerpts: Two excerpts of your choice from the standard orchestral literature.
