Responses to the UAEPO's first Symphony Series June 2007

...I was pleased to attend the most recent concert last Saturday evening given by the DPO at the Madinat Jumeirah Theatre.  Their names escape me but the violin and cello soloists were excellent and put in sparkling performances which made for an entirely enjoyable evening. We are delighted to see the DPO progress and develop and we look forward to more of the same in the future.

...Just a quick note to say how much we all enjoyed the performance last night, even though we had two sleepy girls by the time the Dvorak was played.  What a surprise that such soloists are here in Dubai!  It was lovely to hear live music, even though the acoustics at the theater were a bit unbalanced and flat which resulted in the brass or woodwind sections getting 'lost' occasionally in the Handel etc. 

Thank you again and I wish you all the best for the future.  Lets hope Dubai get a proper symphony hall!

...Many many thanks to you, the two soloists and the entire orchestra for an excellent concert on Saturday evening. It was ,indeed, enchanting and uplifting for the whole audience - a feast of music that more than deserved a full house.

The performances of the two soloists, Elena Cherny and Laura Chapple, were superb as was that of the whole orchestra.

The inclusion of Khachaturian's "Spartacus" was a wonderful surprise and its choice as an encore  was a delightful dessert at the end of the musical feast that you had provided..

The elegant and discreet lighting at the back of the stage was in full harmony with the music  and ,if that were possible, added extra charm to a glorious evening  of music. I left the auditorium mentally refreshed. Once again, thank you and the orchestra  for a most enjoyable and special evening.

Had it not been for tha Damac sponsorship I imagine the ticket price would have been higher. I will therefore send a small donation to the Dubai Centre for Special Needs as a small token of my thanks and appreciation.

PS Elena Cherny enchanted everyone  with "Meditation " at your first concert . She repeated the enchantment with "Mendelssohn" on Saturday. I hope we can all look forward to her playing the "Andante" from Mendelssohn at a future concert. 

...The Dubai Philharmonic Orchestra performed at our Signature Launch & Gala Dinner which was under the patronage of Ivana Trump in April 07 and everyone was most impressed by their performance.

It was refreshing to see the talent available in Dubai and it is certainly better experiencing it hands on.

Philipp Maier who is a wonderful pianist and also the conductor and creator of the DPO did a phenomenal showcase of artists coming together and creating something so magical.

Also the soloists who performed on the night - Cara-Jane Roberts, Aurore Belkin, Elena Cherny & Cedric Vandenschrik - gave a musical edge to the night's performance it would not have been the same without them.

We wish them all the best for the future and recommend booking the DPO as they are truly a sensation to work with.

...I was at DFC on the 9th of march and took some pics of the DPO group performing and like to share them with you.

And i must say what an outstanding performance one to last a lifetime that  was given by the entire DPO group, looking forward to your future performance and will be waiting in line for the future CD.

...Many thanks to you and the members of the Dubai Philharmonic Orchestra for a very enjoyable concert at Dubai Festival City. It was enjoyed by everyone and it was so nice to see the children being exposed to the experience. For me the highlights were the Magic Flute Overture, the Grieg Piano Concerto and the Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana but I also enjoyed the rest of the concert including the Arabic and Indian pieces. I was sitting in the section to your right and back. Unfortunately the accoustics were not kind to the singers - very few words came through as actual words - just sounds. It was a delightful programme and I salute everyone  summa cum laude. As a tiny token of thanks and  appreciation  I am sending a small donation to The Dubai Centre for Special Needs. Once again my thanks to you and everyone.

...I would like to express my sincere thanks for your excellent contribution at our special event at Madinat Jumeirah last Tuesday evening. The Philharmonic Orchestra's performance was one of the highlights of the night and certainly added a touch of class to the function. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed it and we continue to receive many compliments in appreciation of your music.

…I had the pleasure to be at DUCTAC last night and listen to your concert. It was a great concert and a wonderful evening to listen to the whole performance - indeed it was a special evening for us.

...I write to thank you, the conductor Philipp Maier, the three lady soloists and all the ladies and gentlemen of  the Dubai Philharmonic Orchestra for a delightful evening of beautiful music at the Community Theatre on Saturday. The concert  was excellent:I heard many plaudits from members of the audience during the interval and as we departed.

The two high points for me were Elena Chermy's playing of Massenet's Meditation  and Philipp Maier's playing of Mozart's Piano Concerto 15 and the enchanting music from the orchestra on both occasions.

But Philipp Maier and the orchestra showed us all by their performance that modern music can be melodious,elegant, charming and uplifting if arranged and played as was done last evening.No loud repetitive mind boggling drumming to block the sounds of the other instruments.

As a tiny token of thanks and appreciation I am  sending a small donation to the Dubai Centre for special Needs.

Once again my thanks for a delighftul evening. I salute you all Magna Cum Laude.

… Finally!! Dubai has it’s own Philharmonic Orchestra ! Congratulations to all of you for such a wonderful and inspired performance.

……what an extraordinary evening! This was probably the best I have seen (and heard!) in Dubai for a long time. The choice of music and the performance were outstanding. I am proud to say that at last Dubai has a philharmonic orchestra!

…a philharmonic orchestra in Dubai – I couldn’t imagine it until I experienced the Philharmonic’s concert at the Mall of the Emirates on Saturday. What an experience ! When is the next one ?

…I really wanted to congratulate and thank you for that fantastic evening we just had thanks to you all. Well done to you for this extraordinary adventure of the Dubai Philharmonic. It was just so fantastic to see this energy and complicity with all the musicians! Really thank you.

…I was at the concert on Sunday evening. And I have to say: what a great show it was! All the pieces were fabulous. The harmony among the musicians was fantastic. And the Orchestra was beautiful. I'm really looking forward to future shows.

… I attended the DPO’s inaugural concert on Sunday and was totally blown away by the professionalism and quality of the performance – especially the synergy within the orchestra. These are obviously musicians who enjoy performing together and have done so for a long time. The soloists were world-class, the program choice perfect. I sincerely hope we hear more of the DPO in future!
