UAEPO announces first "Symphony Series" in 2008

The UAE Philharmonic Orchestra (UAEPO), in collaboration with the Emirates Palace Hotel Abu Dhabi and the American University Dubai AUD is announcing the opening concerts for the 2008/09 season with the first ”UAEPO Symphony Series“ concert taking place in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The program will feature renowned German opera soprano Maria Glueck performing arias from Mascagni’s ”Cavalleria Rusticana“ as well as Bizet’s opera ”Carmen“. Further program items include the famous Tchaikowsky’s ”Capriccio Italien“ and spectacular ”Ouverture Solenelle 1812“ as well as Borodin’s beautiful ”On the steppes of Central Asia“ and the prelude to Bizet’s opera ”Carmen“.

The UAEPO is currently the only full orchestra resident in the UAE. Headed up by CEO, artistic director and resident conductor Philipp Maier the UAEPO consists of around 70 musicians all based within the UAE.

”The UAEPO truly is the UAE’s philharmonic orchestra“, said Philipp Maier. ”Our members come from Ras Al Khaimah, Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai, and they share one vision, which is to put the UAE firmly on the map of classical music, with an orchestra of our own. Especially considering the enormous growth of classical music through festivals like the Abu Dhabi Classics within the UAE it is evident how important a national philharmonic orchestra has become.“

Inaugurated in December 2006, the UAE Philharmonic Orchestra has been growing a base of enthusiastic private supporters and performed across the country, including the Al Ain Music Festival and at the closing ceremony of the ‘Season of Arts’ for DIFC. Internationally the orchestra enjoys a de facto status as ambassador for cultural development within the UAE.
